Getting Over OCD by Dr. Jonathan S. Abramowitz

I bought a copy of Dr. Abramowitz’s Getting Over OCD: A 10-Step Workbook for Taking Back Your Life, it arrived yesterday. I’ve read it in 3 or 4 small chunks over the past 24 hours.

It is really difficult for me to read. Not because Dr. Abramowitz doesn’t know what he is talking about or because he isn’t a good writer but because of all the anxiety it brings to the surface. This is a good kind of discomfort. To me this says the book is working. When I can read something without being “touched” by it I assume that means either (a) I don’t struggle with the issue being discussed or (b) the book hasn’t managed to confront my issues in a way that works for me.

I don’t like the anxious feelings I’m having as I read this book, but I feel optimistic that the result will be positive. I don’t know a ton of the names of specialists in the OCD field, but out of those I do know, I’m inclined to trust Dr. Abramowitz the most.

I’ll let you all know how things progress.
